How we calculate trip costs

Every Tripcost estimate is the sum of five parts, adjusted for your travellers, city, trip length, month and hotel level.

The five parts

  1. Flights: a typical return economy fare from your departure city, per person. Children are counted at 60% of an adult for flights, food and activities.
  2. Hotels: a typical nightly rate for a double room at the chosen star level, multiplied by the number of nights and rooms, then shared between travellers.
  3. Sightseeing and transfers: a daily per-person allowance for airport transfers, local transport and a typical mix of tours and entry tickets.
  4. Food: a daily per-person allowance for three meals at mid-range local restaurants.
  5. Visa and insurance: the official tourist visa fee for Indian passport holders, plus basic travel insurance.

Season adjustment

Flights and hotels are multiplied by a monthly factor for each destination: higher in peak months (for example Christmas–New Year, Indian school holidays and Diwali) and lower in off-peak months. This is why the calculator shows a cheapest month.

The range

We show the estimate as a range from 10% below to 12% above the central figure. The upper side is wider because real prices more often surprise on the high side: late bookings, fare spikes and resort extras.

What is not included

  • Shopping, alcohol and personal spending
  • Premium experiences such as scuba diving courses or private yacht charters
  • Domestic travel to your departure airport

Where the numbers come from

Visa fees and entry rules come from official government and embassy sources, listed on each guide. Flight, hotel, food and activity figures are Tripcost's own estimates of typical public prices, reviewed on 25 October 2026. We are progressively replacing each figure with a dated, sourced observation; every change is logged on What's new and listed on Data sources.

Limits

Estimates are for planning, not quotes. Prices change daily and differ by provider. Always confirm the final price with the airline, hotel or tour company before you pay.
